One end is 'fixed', with the chain soldered at that point, and the other can be removed and adjusted by unclipping the fastener. Therefore the tassels can either be worn long, and the tassels more symmetrically, or asymmetrically shorter at the neck depending on your preference! I believe the assay mark is the Sheffield import mark rather than London.. although
