Lialis has created this straightforward tool (Lotus Notes app) to automate the conversion of Notes forms to the XFDS format of SharePoint Forms Designer and/or Nintex, so the work you have to do in SharePoint is much less than designing the SharePoint form from scratch. Dell Quest NMSP is supported as well.
You can select the Notes database you are converting to SharePoint and it will display the forms in the tool; you can select the forms you want to convert and press 2 buttons to do the conversion of the Notes form (via XML) to XFDS, which can be imported in SharePoint Forms Designer or in Nintex. This conversion will convert Notes form text, (tabbed) tables and put the fields on the right spot in the table in SharePoint. Please check out the manual below.
The Lotus Notes Domino Form Converter to SharePoint tool is available for you free of charge for a full evaluation period of one month. All you need to do is supply us with your credentials, after which you can download the free software. We will send you a personalized license key, after which you will be able to use the software. If you would like to use this tool for more than a month please contact us so we can provide you an offer.
It is possible the tool will not be able to convert all your Notes Domino forms. If this is the case kindly contact us so we can discuss and supply you with an offer to update the tool for your forms.
This tool is used in projects where Notes and Domino applications are converted to SharePoint applications with Dell Quest NMSP and the SharePoint forms are designed with the Forms Designer tool or the Nintex Forms tool.
In the near future other SharePoint forms designer tools like KWizCom will be supported as well.
The steps to produce a SharePoint Forms Designer form is very straight forward:
When you first open the tool, enter the license key that was sent to you when you downloaded the tool.
Enter the key in one of the available boxes as shown below, and click OK. When you reopen the license, the User Certifier shows the ID that is licensed to use the tool. Please note that some characters (like hyphens [-]) are removed from the certifier that is displayed.
You can enter multiple license keys, for instance if you use multiple ID’s with different certifiers.
Error messages are saved in the log. By clicking the ‘logging’ link, a pop-up displays the messages, for example when you use a Notes ID that is not licensed to be used with this tool.
Select the product that you want to use for converting Notes forms.
Both Forms Designer and Nintex Forms conversion follow the same procedure. However, there is a difference in the conversion options for both products. This will be explained in more detail later.
Click the ‘Select database’ button to select the Notes database that contains the form(s) that you want to convert. You can select a local database as well as a database on the server. Make sure you have sufficient access to this database.
When you have selected the database, the tool will generate and display a list with all the database forms. Depending on the size and the location (local/server) of the database, this may take some time.
From this list, you can select one or more forms that you want to convert. When a form is only to be used for the Web, a [W] is added to the form name. The same for forms only to be used for Notes [N].
The Base Output directory is the ‘root’ location where the tool writes the output files. You can change this by clicking the button next to ‘Base Output directory’.
The App Output directory shows the directory path where the output files are written for each Notes database.
This option is optional. A Transfer Job is a file that has been created with Dell Quest NMSP, and is used to map Notes fields with SharePoint columns. In case you have altered the SharePoint columns names with Dell Quest NMSP you may select the Quest NMSP job file here. Please note that:
When you select one or more Notes forms from the list, a button ‘1. Convert Notes to XML’ appears. By clicking this button, the selected Notes form(s) are converted to an XML file that is saved in the App Output directory.
Because forms may contain subforms, all subforms will be converted to XML as well. However, when a form contains a computed subform, this part is not converted.
XML files containing subform data are preceded with ‘sub_’.
Convertion to XML may take some time. When the tool is ready processing, a message pops up:
After you have clicked the ‘Convert to XML’ button, the ‘Convert XML to Forms Designer (e.g. Nintex)’ button will appear. This button will convert the Notes form xml file(s) to SharePoint Forms Designer or Nintex file(s).
When the tool is ready processing, a message pops up:
The ‘Open Output folder’ button will open the windows explorer in the directory where the xml and xfds files were saved.
When converting to Forms Designer, the output file will be an *.xfds file. The output file of a Nintex conversion will be an XML file, starting with ‘nintex_’
The Lotus Notes Domino Form Converter to SharePoint Forms Designer tool is available free of charge. It is possible that the tool will not be able to convert all Notes Domino forms.
